Community, Culture, and Connection Over Curry
There's something special about Saturday mornings at the Corner Farmer's Market in Greensboro. Maybe it's the cool morning air, the bustle of vendors setting up, or the anticipation of a weekend stretching ahead. For me, it's become the highlight of my week.
More Than Transactions
When I first started selling my Indian cuisine at the market, I expected it to be purely business: make food, sell food, go home. But it's become so much more than that. Every Saturday, I meet people. Real conversations happen. A woman trying Indian food for the first time, nervous but excited. A family who lived in India and wants to taste something that reminds them of home. Kids who've never seen naan bread before and are fascinated by the way it puffs up. These interactions matter. They're mini cultural exchanges happening over containers of curry and bags of rice.
Building Community Through Food
I've learned that when someone buys food from you, they're trusting you. They're inviting your cooking into their home, onto their dinner table, into their weekend plans. That's not something I take lightly. As a veteran and former missionary, I've always been drawn to service. The farmer's market has given me a new way to serve my community—by bridging cultures, introducing new flavors, and creating moments of joy around food.
The Regulars
Some of the best parts of my Saturdays are the regulars. Sarah, who stops by every single week for Chicken Tikka Masala. Mike, who always asks for "extra spicy" (and means it). Emily, who brings her friends to try the vegetarian options. These people have become more than customers. They're part of my farmer's market family. They ask about my week, share stories about where they've traveled, and tell me when they've tried cooking Indian food at home.
